Smile - It’s Sketch Saturday
Ok, fair enough this isn’t a “sketch” in the strictest term but you’re reading the words of a guy who sometimes posts his Sketch Saturdays on a Monday so let’s not quibble. Besides, there’s sketching on 1 and 2.
Anyway, a client recently asked me if I could draw the Heath Ledger/Dark Knight Joker as a commission. That was all the specifics I was given but aside that it was up to me what the image was. I done some mock-ups; Joker sitting playing with knives, Joker staring at his clown mask, etc. But ultimately, the Batman vs Joker seemed to have the most appeal.
This was my process for the image once I got started. I’ve been trying new inking techniques which worked really well here I think. By waiting until I scanned the image to fill in the black areas it made it easier to separate Joker from Batman and Batman from Gotham. The advantage of this was I gave the image depth with Joker beong 100% black, Batman is 90-95% black, and Gotham is being 85-90% black.
I was happy with the outcome as was the client (and the birthday girl it was for) so…job done.
